Come with us on a day trip to Eugene and enjoy an array of Asian-American culture through many vendors.  we will depart Newport Senior Activity Center at 9:00am and return at about 5pm.  Back to top

March 15, 2008 - Daffodil Festival – Junction City - Cost $30.00

This is the official celebration of spring. Join us, on Saturday, March 15, to view mile after mile of golden daffodils along with a classic car display, wagon rides, art show, craft booths, spinning from real bunnies will delight you….and last, but not least, cinnamon buns galore! We will depart from the Newport Senior Activity Center at 9:00am and return at approximately 5:00pm  Back to top

April 10, 2008 - Oregon State Capitol/Riverfront Carousel - Cost $50

A day long trip to Salem to enjoy an Old-World Style Carousel with 44 hand carved and hand painted horses built entirely by volunteers. Countless hours of sanding and painting with the city symbols worked in the designs. You’ll see jumpers, prancers and show horses, even a mule and a zebra; also some Oregon Trail wagons. Leave your cares at home, be a child again, and hop on a carousel horse!! After lunch, roam at your leisure through Lancaster Mall’s 80 specialty shops.  Back to top

May 17, 2008 - Adelman Peony Gardens & Electric Railway Museum Brooks, OR - Cost $45.00

Come with us on a day trip to the secluded Adelman Peony Gardens farm in Brooks, OR, just north of Salem. The farm has 8 acres of production fields with 200 varieties of peonies, fabulous Siberian irises and a collection of 1,000 bearded irises. Then, after lunch we will visit the Oregon Electric Railway Museum, the largest trolley museum in the Pacific Northwest. Back to top

May 23, 2008 - “Willamette Queen” Luncheon Cruise & Visit to the "Iris Gardens" - Cost $75.00

Step back in time and enjoy the natural beauty of the Willamette River aboard an authentic 87 ft. “sternwheeler” for an hour luncheon cruise. If time allows, we will visit the Schreiner’s Iris Gardens and enjoy a unique color spectacle of irises in bloom. On this 2 hour walk, you'll be exposed to the socially and subterranean underground.  Not all of the illicit, naughty, bawdy, corrupt and shady activities happened below street level, but all were underground and hidden,  You'll be surrounded by stunning architecture as our guide reveals true stories about the buildings and the secrets they hold. A treat for lovers of all things sinister - crime, scandal and controversial characters - this tour winds through the Old Town and Chinatown, exposing the city's sordid side.  It's a no-holds-barred excursion into the worst Portland has to offer. June 11-12, 2008 - Rogue River Mail Boat Overnight Expedition - Cost $180.00

Come and join us for a wildlife adventure up the beautiful Rogue River. The 64-mile jet boat ride called “Postman’s run” starts off in Gold Beach and follows the river to historic Agnes. We will be spending Wednesday night in Gold Beach and taking the river trip on Thursday.  Back to top

 

June 20-21, 2008 - Mount St. Helens Overnight Expedition - Cost $210.00

Come and join us for a unique adventure to historic Mount St. Helens, thirty miles NW of Portland. We will stay overnight at the Mount St. Helens Motel (each room has a microwave and fridge). Observe Mount St. Helens from the Johnston Ridge Observatory. We will also visit the Ape Cave Lava Tube, one of the longest of its kind in the world. Enjoy a cruise though the waters of Portland, Oregon with fine dining, live entertainment, and a view of the downtown skyline aboard your exclusive Portland Spirit riverboat cruise!  On this unique tour, you have the chance to experience downtown Portland from a whole new perspective - the water.  Your Portland Spirit vessel passes along the downtown area, exposing amazing views of the city that just can't be found on dry land!  You'll cruise upstream though the Willamette river to the Milwaukee Basin and Lake Oswego areas near the downtown district.  Relax to the sound of grand pianos and a singing wait staff that serve you a freshly-prepared, authentic Northwest meal!  We will depart promptly at 9am. September 6, 2008 - Tillamook Train Ride/  Blue Heron French Cheese Co. - cost $60

The train ride features views of Tillamook Bay, the Pacific Ocean Nehalem Bay and the Nehalem River Valley.  Passing by many lakes and seeing views that can be seen only by rail.  Pacific Railway & Navigation Company, Inc., a volunteer organization, provides historical information and color for your riding enjoyment.  Then we'll visit the BLUE HERON FRENCH CHEESE COMPANY!  Sample the famous Brie, try the gourmet foods, sample Oregon's finest wines, and wander through the unique gift store.  If you are looking for a fantastic place to eat lunch, then try the Blue Heron Deli with fresh baked bread and homemade soups and salads.  So take a day with us and spend it in the country.  We would love to hear from you and have you along with us! September 12, 2008 - Oktoberfest Mt. Angel - cost $40 (transportation only)

 

There is no more appropriate setting for an American version of the "OLD WORLD" Oktoberfest than in Mount Angel, Oregon.  The small community was settled by German Pioneers in the 1800's and readily reminds one of the rich Bavarian countryside.  Oregon's oldest and best-loved Oktoberfest began in 1966 as a traditional harvest festival to celebrate the bounty of the earth and the goodness of creation.  It is Oregon's largest folk festival.  There will be continuous live music on four stages, over 30 musical groups featuring the Original Donaumusikanten from Germany, over 50 Alpine food chalets serving a wide variety of ethnic foods and Bavarian treats, as well as traditional Biergarten, Weingarten and Alpinegarten, also Arts and Crafts galore to see.  More information is available in the office at the Newport Senior Activity Center.  Please Call 265-9617.Back to top

November 14, 2008 - Holiday Shopping Trip - Salem cost - $35

The Newport Senior Activity Center is planning a trip to Salem, Our State Capitol, for a holiday shopping spree.  Salem is full of little shops and big malls, for your shopping enjoyment.  You could get your shopping wrapped-up in one day without driving, and not have to find a parking spot.  Come join us for a fun filled day, some variety other than the coast to choose from, and lunch out with friends at India Palace Restaurant.  More information is available in the office at the Newport Senior Activity Center.  Please Call 265-9617.Back to top
